Kovalchuk To Miss At Least Two Games
According to an Associated Press report, Thrashers star Ilya Kovalchuk will miss at least two games but apparently avoided serious injury to his right knee when he was hurt in Wednesday night's game against Pittsburgh.

Predators Sign Tootoo To 2-Year Extension
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed forward Jordin Tootoo to a two-year, $1.95 million contract extension. In just 41 games in 2007-08, Tootoo has already attained career highs in goals (7) and points (13) in addition to tying a career best in assists.
?Since we drafted Jordin in 2001, we have seen him blossom into a complete player, as evidenced by his gradual increase in production since breaking into the NHL,? Poile said. ?Jordin is a physical player that can not only get under opponents? skin and draw penalties, but has proven he can score at this level as well. We are excited about watching his continued development over the next two seasons.?
Tootoo, 24 (2/2/83), has played 210 career games, all with Nashville, registering 40 points (18g-22a) and 365 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 9, 2003 vs. Anaheim, becoming the first player of Inuit decent to play in the National Hockey League. In his rookie season in 2003-04, he scored four goals and registered eight points in 70 games to help the Predators to their first playoff appearance in franchise history.
Prior to being put on injured reserve after suffering a groin injury on January 8 at Los Angeles, the Rankin Inlet, Nunavut native was averaging a career-best 10:02 minutes per game. Twice in his past eight appearances in the lineup Tootoo logged more than 15 minutes of ice time, marking the first two times in his career he has hit that mark. The 5-9, 194-pound right wing went through the most productive stretch of his career from Nov. 4-17, 2007, when he scored three goals in a six-game span.
He was originally Nashville?s sixth choice, 98th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Jackets Recall Brule From AHL Syracuse
The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled center Gilbert Brule from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. He is expected to join the club in time for Thursday?s road game against the Nashville Predators.
Brule, 21, has appeared in 31 games with the Blue Jackets this season, tallying one goal and three assists for four points with 10 penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating. Since being assigned to the Crunch on January 1, he has collected 4-4-8 and 16 penalty minutes in 12 AHL contests.
Columbus? first pick, sixth overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, he has registered 12-15-27 and 38 penalty minutes in 116 career NHL games. The 5-10, 180-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, tallied 9-10-19 and 28 penalty minutes in 78 games as a rookie with the Blue Jackets in 2006-07.
