Are The Sharks Smarter And More Resilient Than Last Year?
Jonathan Cheechoo remembers how the Sharks' playoff run fell apart last spring, and he doesn't see it happening again.
The Sharks won six of their first seven playoff games last spring, but collapsed in the second round after Edmonton won Game 3 on a triple-overtime score by Shawn Horcoff. San Jose's momentum was irrevocably halted, and the Oilers rolled to four straight wins.
On Saturday, the Sharks were 20 minutes shy of a dramatic two-game sweep to start the clubs' second-round playoff series -- until the Red Wings awoke for Dan Cleary's early short-handed goal and Pavel Datsyuk's heartbreaking winner in Detroit's 3-2 victory.
A familiar script? Not to Cheechoo, who believes the current Team Teal is smarter and more resilient than last season's squad. With veteran experience added to last year's memories, the Sharks believe they'll respond to their only major disappointment so far in the young playoffs when they hit the ice for Game 3 on Monday night.

Devils And Wings Having Attendance Issues
The inability of the Devils to sell out home playoff games has been an ongoing topic of conversation, but much more shocking was the fact that there were thousands of empty seats at Joe Louis Arena last week for Game 1 of the Red Wings-Sharks series. Observers say attendance was far less than the 18,712 announced.

Michal Rozsival, banged up in each of the first two games of the playoff series against Buffalo, fired a shot from just inside the blue line 16:43 into the second overtime Sunday to lift the Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Sabres.
Buffalo still leads the Eastern Conference semifinal series 2-1, but the Rangers can get even with a Game 4 victory Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden.

Stars' Tippett, Staff To Return Next Season
The Stars lost a tough first-round series after fighting their way through an injury-plagued season.
It was enough reason for the organization to announce Saturday it was keeping coach Dave Tippett and his staff around for the 2007-08 season.
Stars GM Doug Armstrong met with owner Tom Hicks on Friday and both agreed to keep Tippett, associate coach Rick Wilson and assistants Mark Lamb and Ulf Dahlen after the team reached the 50 wins mark for the third time since the 1998-99 season.
Langenbrunner Lifts Devils To OT Victory Over Senators
The Devils owned the first period and very little else. That is until Jamie Langenbrunner put a quick end to double overtime.
Langenbrunner changed that 1:55 into the second overtime when Travis Zajac sent him off on a breakaway, and the forward shoved the puck past Ray Emery to lift New Jersey to a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
That gave the Devils a home split of the first two games in the Eastern Conference semifinal series.
